Match report written by 5th Class team members.
On Friday morning, the tennis team took the train to Glenageary to play the first of our league matches. On route we saw Croke Park and the Aviva Stadium. We played against Glenageary Killiney National School at Glenageary Tennis Club. We had a mixed pairing, a girls’ pairing and a boys’ pairing.
There are a number of rules in tennis that we were reminded of during our warm up. The ball can only bounce once, you cannot reach over the net or touch the net and the points system goes from 15 to 30, then to 40, deuce and advantage. We each had to play a set of 4 games but to win we had to win by 2. Some of us played 2 sets but some of us had to play 3. The third set was a tiebreaker with a different scoring system.
We were delighted to finish the day with 3 wins out of 3 matches. We are already looking forward to our next match after Easter.
