We marked World Book Day in Springdale National School on Thursday 7th March with a wonderful celebration of reading.

It began with some book recommendations from 4th Class to each of the other classes in school during assembly.

Later in the morning,  Master Story Teller, Ms. Downes, treated Junior Infants to 2nd class to some stories which she brought alive in her own special way. They were captivated and inspired to such an extent that some pupils brought their books out to the yard at break time!

Following break, we had a visit from an author, Peter Prendergast who read from his book, The Romanian Builder, and explained how the book came about and gave some tips on writing. He also read a letter from his daughter, Orla, who is a professional cricketer which gave some great insight and advice on life as a full time athlete. There was great two-way chat about Peter’s other book, Dancing in the Dark, which includes a lot about his other love, sport, and indeed his own sporting life which the children interrogated to the full. Many thanks to Ms. Downes and Mr. Prendergast for their time, making it a special World Book Day.
